Red Squirrel
Among the wildlife visiting the garden and its surrounding area are deer, red squirrels, partridge, owls, badgers, otters, wild boar and beavers. From April to September the house martins, swallows and swifts nest around the house performing acrobatic flying displays accompanied by the plaintive cries of circling buzzards. If you are interested in bird watching, the Loch of the Lowes with its famous ospreys and other wildlike is just a short distance away.
HISTORY
Castle
In Strathardle there are castles, ancient settlements and standing stones. Nearby are mysterious carved PICTISH STONES and STANDING STONES and the remains of ROMAN FORTIFICATIONS. From Shakespeare's Macbeth, the brooding DUNSINNAN HILL and legendary BIRNAM WOOD are both in the local area
GOLF
There are around 10 local Golf courses just a short drive away and the championship courses of St Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles are readily accessible.

Walkers
Visible and easily accessible from the REID HOUSE, the popular CATERAN TRAIL provides the walker with short or long distance hikes amid stunning countryside. There are plenty of other signposted walks in the area. For the cyclist or mountain biker there are numerous quiet country roads or tracks to explore.

Exciting and unique events happen all year round the area. There are theatres, cinemas, agricultural and Highland Shows, music and drama festivals, farmers markets, distilleries, art galleries and in DUNDEE, Captain Scott's famous ship the RSS DISCOVERY. The coastal fishing villages of FIFE and ANGUS, with some of the best unspoilt beaches in the country are easily accessible.

FISHING
Another popular pastime, and the area has opportunities for fly, coarse and sea fishing. Salmon can be seen leaping the falls in nearby rivers.
